The Science
Tattoo ink sits in the dermis in particles too large for your immune system to remove. A Q-switched laser delivers energy in pulses measured in billionths of a second. That burst shatters the ink into far smaller fragments, which your lymphatic system then carries away over the following weeks.
Different colors absorb different wavelengths. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG is absorbed by black, dark blue, and deeper pigment. The 532 nm KTP setting is absorbed by red, orange, and some lighter inks. Our handpiece delivers both, so a multi-color tattoo is treated color by color in the same session.
The same physics works on pigmented lesions. Sun spots and age spots hold excess melanin near the surface, and the Q-switched pulse breaks that pigment apart so it darkens and flakes away. Because the surrounding skin is spared, downtime for spots is short.

Treatment Plan
The number of sessions depends on ink colors, depth, the age of the tattoo, and your skin tone. Sessions are spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. Pricing by tattoo size is published at launch in October 2026.

What to Expect
Step 1
We photograph the tattoo, note ink colors and depth, review your skin tone, medications, and sun exposure, and estimate a session range. Pigmented lesions are checked to confirm they are appropriate for laser.
Step 2
We treat a small section and check how the ink and your skin respond, which is especially important for darker skin tones and colored inks.
Step 3
Topical numbing and cooling go on first. Each pulse feels like a hot snap of a rubber band, and most tattoos take a few minutes. The area whitens briefly and then reddens.
Step 4
Keep the area clean and covered for the first days. Blistering, crusting, and swelling can occur and settle within about a week. Avoid sun and use sunscreen, then return in 6 to 8 weeks.
Safety and Skin Tone
The 1064 nm wavelength passes through skin with less absorption by melanin, which makes it the safer setting for darker skin tones. The 532 nm wavelength is absorbed more readily by skin pigment, so on deeper tones we use it carefully or set it aside. A test spot comes first for every darker skin tone.
Temporary lightening or darkening of the skin around the tattoo can happen and usually fades. Avoid tanning and self-tanner for two weeks before each session, and tell us about photosensitizing medications, a history of keloid scarring, or pregnancy. Green and bright blue inks respond more slowly to any laser, and we set expectations about them honestly.
