Quick Answer

Chemical peels in Austin at Banyan & Bamboo come in two depths. The Glow & Go light peel ($149), a SkinBetter AlphaRet peel with glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acid, refreshes texture and radiance with no downtime. Medium peels step up in strength: SkinMedica Vitalize ($250) and Rejuvenize ($375) for tone, texture, and early lines, and the Perfect Derma Peel ($449), a TCA peel with kojic acid and glutathione that corrects melasma, sun damage, acne marks, and fine lines over a week of peeling and is safe for all skin tones. Our medical aestheticians match the peel and its strength to your skin at a free consultation.

Who Is This Treatment For?

  • Concern: Hyperpigmentation, melasma, sun damage, acne and post-acne marks, shallow scarring, rough texture, fine lines, or dullness that a standard facial has stopped improving.

  • Skin Type: All Fitzpatrick types. Deeper skin tones need an acid profile and prep that keep inflammation low, and we plan for that at every visit.

  • Downtime: Glow & Go: none. Perfect Derma Peel: visible peeling from day 3 to day 7. We tell you exactly what each day looks like before you book.

  • Timing: Fall and winter are ideal in Austin because lower UV means faster healing and better pigment results. Summer peels work with strict sun protection.

Start With Your Concern

What You See, What a Peel Does About It

A peel is chosen by what it needs to correct, then by how deep it has to go to do that. These four concerns cover most of the clients who book with us.

Melasma, sun spots, and uneven tone

What you see

Brown patches across the cheeks, forehead, or upper lip that darken every summer. Spots that serums lighten a little and never clear.

What a peel does

A medium-depth peel removes the pigmented upper layers in one controlled shed, while kojic acid slows the enzyme that makes new melanin and glutathione calms the inflammation that would otherwise trigger more.

Which peel

The Perfect Derma Peel, usually 2 to 3 treatments 4 to 6 weeks apart. Fall and winter are the ideal seasons in Austin.

Acne, post-acne marks, and shallow scarring

What you see

Breakouts along the jaw and cheeks, dark marks that stay for months after a blemish heals, and a rough, uneven surface where old acne was.

What a peel does

Salicylic acid clears the oil and debris inside the pore. TCA and retinoic acid resurface the marks and speed cell turnover, so healthy skin replaces the stained layers and shallow scars soften over a series.

Which peel

The Perfect Derma Peel with the Acne booster. For deeper pitted scars we alternate peels with microneedling, which works on a different layer.

Texture, pores, and early fine lines

What you see

Skin that looks crepey in side light, pores that stay visible under makeup, and fine lines at the eyes and mouth that are starting to hold.

What a peel does

Removing the compacted outer layer smooths the surface immediately. Reaching the upper dermis signals fibroblasts to lay down new collagen over the following 4 to 8 weeks, which is what firms and refines.

Which peel

Glow & Go for texture and pores with no downtime. Vitalize or Rejuvenize when lines and firmness are the goal, stepping up in strength.

Dullness and maintenance

What you see

Skin that looks tired and flat no matter how well you sleep, makeup that sits on the surface, and a glow that shows up only after a facial and fades within days.

What a peel does

A light peel dissolves the bonds holding dead cells to the surface so they release evenly. Light bounces off smooth skin, which is the radiance people notice.

Which peel

Glow & Go, monthly or before an event. It is also the peel we recommend for a first experience and for keeping results after a corrective series.

The Science

How a Chemical Peel Works

Skin renews itself on roughly a 28-day cycle, and that cycle slows with age, sun, and inflammation. Dead cells pile up on the surface, pigment made in response to UV gets trapped in the upper layers, and collagen production in the dermis drifts downward. A chemical peel applies an acid solution that lowers the skin's pH and dissolves the bonds holding those compacted cells together. The skin sheds them in a controlled way and replaces them with new cells from below.

Depth is what separates a refresh from a correction. A light peel works in the epidermis, so it clears the surface and brightens with no downtime. A medium peel reaches the papillary dermis, the layer where fibroblasts live. The controlled injury there is read by the skin as a wound to repair, and the repair response produces new collagen and elastin for 4 to 8 weeks after the peel. That is the mechanism behind softer lines, tighter texture, and resurfaced scars.

Why skin tone changes the plan

Melanocytes respond to inflammation by making more pigment. In deeper skin tones that response is stronger, so an aggressive peel can leave darker marks than it removes. We control it three ways: a formula that includes glutathione and kojic acid to keep inflammation and new pigment low, pre-treatment prep for Fitzpatrick IV to VI, and timing that avoids peak sun.

What the seven actives do

  • TCA (Trichloroacetic acid): Reaches the upper dermis to resurface damaged skin and trigger the repair response that drives visible peeling and renewal.
  • Retinoic acid (Vitamin A derivative): Speeds cell turnover so healthy cells surface faster, and helps the other actives penetrate evenly.
  • Salicylic acid (BHA exfoliant): Oil-soluble, so it clears congestion inside the pore. The active doing the work for acne-prone skin.
  • Kojic acid (Brightening agent): Slows tyrosinase, the enzyme that produces melanin. This is why the peel performs on melasma and sun damage.
  • Phenol (Smoothing exfoliant, low concentration): Refines surface texture and softens fine lines, giving the formula part of its medium-depth reach.
  • Glutathione (Antioxidant): Brightens, reduces inflammation, and lowers the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It is the reason this peel is used on Fitzpatrick types I through VI.
  • Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid): Protects the newly revealed skin from environmental damage and supports firmness alongside glutathione.

Why season matters in Austin

New skin is photosensitive for several weeks after a medium peel. Austin's UV index sits high from May through September, which raises the chance of pigment returning while the skin is still healing. October through March is peel season here: faster healing, better pigment results, and less discipline required. Summer peels are possible with daily SPF 30 or higher and a hat.

Every peel is performed by a medical aesthetician under physician oversight.

Light peel · SkinBetter Science

Glow & Go Peel (SkinBetter AlphaRet)

$149
Time: 20 to 30 minutesDowntime: None

The SkinBetter Science AlphaRet exfoliating peel pairs a retinoid conjugate with a triple-acid blend of glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acid. The acids lift the dead outer layer, clear the pores, and leave skin bright the same day, and the retinoid keeps working on texture and tone after you leave. Most clients book it monthly or in the week before an event.

Suited to: First peels, monthly maintenance, event prep, texture, pores, and dullness.

  • Skin assessment
  • AlphaRet retinoid plus glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids
  • Calming and SPF finish

Medium peel · SkinMedica

Vitalize Peel

$250
Time: About 30 minutesDowntime: Light flaking for 2 to 3 days

A SkinMedica peel that layers salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol, then finishes with a retinol step that keeps working after you leave. It improves tone and texture with only light peeling, which makes it the medium peel we start most clients on before moving to something stronger.

Suited to: Mild sun damage, early fine lines, uneven tone, and a first medium peel. Suitable for all skin types.

  • Skin assessment
  • Retinol finishing step
  • Post-peel care instructions

Medium-deep peel · SkinMedica

Rejuvenize Peel

$375
Time: About 30 minutesDowntime: Peeling for 3 to 5 days

The stronger SkinMedica peel. The same acid blend at higher strength, with panthenol and a retinol step, reaches further into the dermis for moderate texture, pigment, and line correction. Skin peels more visibly than with Vitalize. Deeper skin tones are assessed individually before booking.

Suited to: Moderate sun damage, deeper lines, acne marks, and clients who have already done a Vitalize peel.

  • Skin assessment
  • Retinol finishing step
  • Post-peel care instructions

Medium-depth peel

The Perfect Derma Peel

$449
Time: About 15 minutes to applyDowntime: Peeling days 3 to 7

Seven actives in one formula: TCA, retinoic acid, salicylic acid, kojic acid, phenol, glutathione, and vitamin C. Applied in the treatment room, then you peel at home over a week with the included aftercare kit. Most clients see a clear change after one treatment; pigment and scarring respond well to a series of 2 to 3.

Suited to: Melasma, sun damage, acne marks and shallow scarring, fine lines, and uneven tone. Safe for all skin tones.

  • Take-home aftercare kit
  • Optional Pigment, Acne, or Plus booster ($75)
  • Day-by-day guidance from your aesthetician

What to Expect

Your Perfect Derma Peel Week, Day by Day

The Glow & Go has no downtime. This is the medium peel, and this is what the week looks like.

  1. 1

Days 1 and 2: application and the day after

The peel is applied in about 15 minutes and stays on. Skin looks normal, sometimes slightly darker or tighter. You go about your day. Sunscreen is the only rule.

  2. 2

Days 3 and 4: peeling begins

Shedding starts around the mouth and chin and spreads outward. It looks dramatic and it is the treatment working. Keep the skin moisturized with the kit and let it release on its own.

  3. 3

Days 5 to 7: peeling resolves

Most of the shedding is done by the end of the week. Skin underneath is smooth and brighter. Avoid heat, heavy exercise, and direct sun while it finishes.

  4. 4

Weeks 2 to 8: results build

Pigment is lighter and tone more even by week two. Collagen remodeling continues for weeks, so texture and firmness keep improving before your next treatment.
