Quick Answer

Sports massage in Austin at Banyan & Bamboo is built for people who train: runners on the Lady Bird Lake trail, lifters, cyclists, tennis and pickleball players, and anyone recovering from a race. Brandon Gomez, LMT, a sports massage therapist with more than seven years of experience and a fitness background, uses cross-fiber work, assisted stretching, cupping, and trigger point release to speed recovery and restore range of motion. $137 for 50 minutes, $187 for 80, or the 90-minute Rebuild at $280. South Lamar, 78704.

Start With What You Feel

What You Feel, What the Session Does About It

Heavy legs after a run or ride

Heavy legs after a run or ride

What you feel

Quads and calves that stay sore for days, tight hamstrings, and a stride that shortens on the next run.

What the session does

Flushing strokes move fluid out of worked muscle, cupping lifts the fascia, and stretching restores the length that repeated impact took away.

Sports Massage, 80 minutes, or the Rebuild

Tight hips and a stiff low back from lifting

Tight hips and a stiff low back from lifting

What you feel

Hip flexors that lock after squats and deadlifts, a low back that tightens to compensate, and a lift that stalls at the same depth.

What the session does

Deep work on the hip flexors, glutes, and QL, with assisted stretching to give the hips their range back, so the back stops doing the hips' job.

Rebuild, 90 minutes

Shoulder and forearm strain from racquet sports

Shoulder and forearm strain from racquet sports

What you feel

A shoulder that aches after tennis or pickleball, tight forearms, and a serve that has lost its snap.

What the session does

Cross-fiber work on the rotator cuff and forearm extensors, trigger point release where the ache refers from, and mobility work for the shoulder capsule.

Sports Massage, 50 or 80 minutes

An old injury that keeps coming back

An old injury that keeps coming back

What you feel

The same hamstring, calf, or shoulder flares every few weeks, no matter how well you warm up.

What the session does

Precision work finds the adhesion or trigger point behind the pattern and treats it across a short series, with a plan for the weeks between.

Precision Pain Relief, 90 minutes

How It Works

What Sports Massage Does That a Regular Massage Does Not

Training creates micro-tears in muscle, that is how it gets stronger, and the repair leaves behind adhesions, shortened fibers, and fascia that binds where it should glide. Left alone, those changes show up as lost range of motion, a nagging spot that never clears, and the injury that arrives on the same side every season.

Sports massage treats the tissue your sport actually loads. Cross-fiber friction breaks up adhesions along the muscle's line of pull. Assisted stretching, with the therapist moving the limb while the muscle relaxes, restores length that static stretching cannot reach. Cupping lifts the fascia away from the muscle so fluid moves and the layers glide again. Trigger point release treats the knots that refer pain to a different place than they live.

Timing matters. A lighter session before an event primes the tissue. The deep work belongs 24 to 72 hours after, when the soreness peaks and circulation does the most good. Between events, every two to three weeks keeps the adhesions from building.
