About Jennifer Rushing

Thirty Years in the Making

I have been building things for most of my life. Nearly 30 years as an entrepreneur, across five businesses, in some of the most different places you can imagine. Banyan & Bamboo is the one that brings all of it together.

Roots

I grew up between Alaska and Hawaii. In Alaska, I spent seasons commercial fishing with my mother and stepfather, which is exactly as demanding as it sounds, and it taught me early that you work hard, you adapt, and you do not quit when conditions turn. In Hawaii, I was raised in part by my grandparents, Elizabeth Ann and Jim Thompson, whose family has been rooted in the islands for generations. That side of my life taught me Aloha: that care and beauty are things you practice every day, for the people around you and for yourself.

Those two worlds — strength and roots — have shaped everything I have built since.

The Build

My first ventures looked nothing like a med spa. In Alaska, my family and I grew HeatSource Mechanical, a heating company, into a multimillion-dollar business, and then we sold it. In Hawaii, we bought a small shave ice shack, moved it, reimagined it as Gecko Girlz in Kailua-Kona, and grew it before selling in 2023. Along the way I built a home flipping and short-term rental business that I still run today. Different industries, different islands, one constant: I do not cut corners, and I do not build anything I am not proud to put my name on.

In 2024, I moved to Austin and took the keys to the practice that would become Banyan & Bamboo. I arrived one day before I took over. I knew exactly what I wanted to build, and it was not another volume-driven med spa. I wanted a place built on a simple belief: that looking your best and being genuinely healthy are among the most powerful things a woman can control as she ages.

The Standard

I have always believed a business can offer two of three things: the best service, the best quality, or the best price. I choose service and quality every time, and I do not compete on price. That belief shaped every decision here. I was not willing to have an absentee medical director the way so many med spas do, so I brought on Dr. David L. Sneed, MD, an engaged physician who owned and ran his own Austin med spa before retiring. After some hard lessons with other injectors, I found Brittany Cantu, AME, one of Austin's most experienced and respected injectors, with more than 21 years of work behind her. And because I believe beauty and wellness are one system, we partnered with Atria Wellness to care for health from the inside while we refine the results you can see.

The Purpose

I named this practice after the Lahaina banyan tree, which burned in the fires, was believed dead, and then quietly grew back. I understand that kind of resilience, in business and in life. I have rebuilt before. I believe in regeneration — not only for skin, but as a way of moving through the world: roots deep enough to hold, and the flexibility to bend without breaking.

My heart has always been for women, especially as we age, to feel strong, powerful, and like the best version of ourselves. That is what I built Banyan & Bamboo to do. If that is what you are looking for, I would be honored to have you.
